Layer Marney Tower Essex wedding for Lucy and Tony-Pengelly Photography Essex & Suffolk Wedding Photography

It is always lovely to photograph at Layer Marney Tower so we thought we would blog a wedding we did in May last year of Lucy and Tony.We arrived at the home visit for Lucy and just captured a few getting ready photos before we made our way to Layer Marney to meet Tony and the guys for their photos, we then captured a few guests arriving as we waited patiently for Lucy to arrive as her flower girls and bridesmaids watched on.

After the ceremony Lucy and Tony went for a little drive up to the gates as all the guests made their way to the steps for photographs after all the photographs everyone was able to enjoy the beautiful sunshine along with the champagne and canapés.At this time of year with the evening getting lighter after speeches we were able to go back out for a few more together photos of the couple, most bride and grooms really enjoy this time as a little breather away from everyone. Then we made our way back to the Long Gallery for the first dance where everyone gathered around to watch.

A great day was had by all.

Thank you Lucy and Tony for letting us be part of your special day.

Winter Wedding at Layer Marney Tower Essex of Alcina and Andrew-Pengelly Photography Essex & Suffolk Wedding Photographers

We wanted to share a wedding we photographed in December at Layer Marney Tower especially as we will be exhibiting at their wedding fair this Sunday the 9th January from 11-3.30pm.

If you are looking for a venue for your wedding day then please do come along and view this stunning venue and it’s beautiful grounds and say hello to us in the long gallery where we will be exhibiting with our stand.

It was a very dreary wet and damp day but this was not going to spoil it for Alcina and Andrew.

Alcina looked beautiful in her wedding dress and coat which had a medieval feel to it and fitted in really well with their venue. It was the first time that we had photographed the table layout like it was in the long gallery at Layer Marney, once all the candles were lit it looked absolutely stunning and once again very fitting with the venue.

Graham the superb driver at Layer Marney brought Alcina and Andrew to the gates and the venue looked stunning in the background as they walked towards it,although we could not do our signature shot at the window in the long gallery we still managed to get some lovely photos utilising the other windows available.

The day ended with a Celiidh band and some fun dancing.

Thank you Alcina and Andrew for letting us be part of your special day.

Essex Wedding Photography, Layer Marney Tower for Jenny and Dean

It has been a while so sorry for not posting anything on the blog but we have been very busy getting album orders completed and sent off in time for the Christmas deadline !!

Anyway now onto the lovely wedding of Jenny and Dean who were married at Layer Marney Tower, Essex another one of our favourite venues that we love coming back to and photographing and it was great to work with Tina Crossley and Emma Brooks at the home visit who did the girls hair and makeup.

We were very lucky to have another glorious day of sunshine and get out into the lovely garden of Jenny’s parents for a few photos before heading off to Layer Marney Tower to meet Dean.

It is always good for us when everyone is organised so we can get some great photos in a relaxed manner which is what we were able to do as everything ran to time giving us the opportunity to capture some great images for Jenny and Dean and for them to have fun drinking champagne and chatting with friends and family.

Enough of my rambling and here are a few photos from their wedding day.

Thank you Jenny and Dean for letting us be part of your special day. xx

Layer Marney Tower- Essex- Wedding of Alina and Ben

It was lovely to be back again at Layer Marney Tower for the wedding of Alina and Ben and we started the day off at the couples home where the lovely Emma from Pretty Faces was finishing off makeup for Alina.

There was some really great natural light coming in (which as you know we love !) which made for some great photos. Here is where we also met Jack and Tilly who were Alina and Ben’s children and they were really excited about the wedding but not too sure on so many strangers in their house! Jack was really mad on Lego and proudly showed us all the things he had made taking pride of place on a shelf in his bedroom.

Ben and the guys were waiting for us at Layer Marney and we grabbed a few quick shots before Alina arrived in the Layer Marney car driven by as always, Graham.

We could tell that this was going to be another glorious day, perfect for a wedding and all for all the guests to enjoy a really lovely day.All the children were having an amazing time running around the beautiful gardens so we left them to it and captured a few family photos in the evening.

We are SO very lucky to go to so many beautiful venues and be part of so many couples weddings so thank you Alina and Ben for letting us be part of your special day.

Layer Marney Tower Wedding Photography-Victoria & Mathew.

Good Afternoon Pengelly Fans,

Wow have I got a blog for you today featuring the amazing Layer Marney Tower and the wedding photography of Victoria and Mathew. It was all happening here, buses, fun, turkeys, sporrans, drama and more hats than you can shake a stick hat; so relax and I shall begin…

In the beginning there was a beautiful bride called Victoria and on this day she was set to marry her Prince Mathew. Her fairy photographers visited Victoria and granted her the wish of a wonderful wedding story liberally sprinkled with Pengelly magic 🙂 She was attended by her fairy godmothers also known as Tina Crossley of Beautiful Hair 4 Weddings and Emma Brooks Make up and they were set to make Victoria a princess for they day but could they improve on perfection? Of course because like the fairy photographers they also perform many wonderful and magical things.

Victoria then left her family home to make her way to the tower, now in this story the tower is a good thing as her Mathew was already waiting there to make her his wife. Their guests arrived in a beautiful red bus that belongs to Layer Marney Tower and they excitedly settled ready to see Victoria make her entrance. It was a beautiful ceremony and Victoria was so happy to see her groom and finally become his wife; her happiness was evident for all to see. There was much jubilation at the tower as the pipers played for the newlyweds who celebrated amongst their guests and Victoria was so happy to have married her prince.

Now how’s that for a love story? I wanted to write something that befitted Victoria and Mathew to appeal to their theatrical side as they are very keen actors. They are also huge Chelsea fans. Football is something very close to my heart as I was a budding footballer in my younger days, and many of you probably know that our son Aaron is going from strength to strength with his football. I love my job as we are so privileged to meet the most wonderful people; I am chuffed to bits that we have kept in touch with Victoria and Mathew; Aaron and I have had a lovely time watching football with them at Stamford Bridge.

This wedding was so popular that it was gatecrashed…..by turkeys!! They loved it and followed Victoria and Mathew up the drive. I did hear they disgraced themselves later after too much champagne 😉 Irie Jay who is well known to us was singing throughout the drinks reception and there was only one short sharp shower as the drinkies ended despite the dark clouds. I was not fussed as I love the drama these clouds create.

The weddingdisco.com were there to entertain during the evening and in true fairytale tradition there was a starlight floor. For me this was particularly lovely as it added a completely new dimension to a shot that I love doing at Layer Marney; just check out those twinkles and reflections! To finish Mathew’s daughters had choreographed a dance routine that was just a joy to watch even through a viewfinder. I think theatre must be in the blood, very talented and beautifully behaved young ladies.

Sabrina and I came away from this wedding truly enchanted and as the clock struck twelve nothing turned into a pumpkin and they lived happily ever after….ahhhhhh.

Kevin and Sabrina 🙂

The End

Essex Wedding Photographers Layer Marney Tower Colchester Essex – Image of the Week

Week 30

We thoroughly enjoyed the Essex Wedding Photography of Victoria and Matthew who were married at Layer Marney Tower, Colchester, Essex.  I usually show some of my Pengelly signature images because this venue really does have some amazing architecture, but today I said no Kevin, no let’s show something a little different and more dreamy from this beautiful wedding venue and here it is.

This is my romantic and dreamy side coming out, yes Pengelly lovers; the car/football mad Kevin has a very dreamy and romantic side that really works well with my dramatic, fashion inspired images.  This image just oozes happiness from Victoria and Matthew and the parasol gives the image a Jane Austen feel, which is further enhanced by Matthew and his attire.

When Sabrina and I look back over the blog this year we feel so blessed to have the most wonderful couples to work with and share their special day.  Having our blog is a way of sharing so many special memories that we can look back on to remind ourselves of all the wonderful people that come into our lives.  You see, dreamy and romantic, I have bundles of it!

I am now off to schmooze Sabrina; she can’t resist KP’s charms once he gets started 😉

Have a lovely weekend and be sure to check back in next week.

Kevin and Sabrina 🙂

Weddings at Layer Marney Tower Colchester Essex – Jamie and Sean

Good Morning Bloggers,

Today I am taking you to some wedding photography at Layer Marney Tower, Colchester, Essex with another lovely Pengelly couple Jamie and Sean.  The wedding service was held at St James the Less and St Helen Catholic Church, Colchester, Essex.  The weather decided to throw us a curve ball, just before the service was due to start the rain came in and lashed down incessantly before, during and after; really there was absolutely no letting up!  Professional wedding photographers really do have to cope with the most extreme conditions and before every wedding they will never know what is thrown at them during the day.  The beauty of using a seasoned and qualified professional over an amateur or family friend, is they expect this and will produce beautiful images with ease and calm.  A true professional will not bat an eyelid whereas the amateur of family friend may well end up in a heap somewhere wondering what on earth they are going to do!  Sorry I digress; we decided that we would utilise this beautiful church and do all the group shots inside before heading off to the reception.

So it was off to Layer Marney Tower, which as you know from previous blogs is a Pengelly Popular, so how about this – as soon as we arrived the rain ceased and out came Mr Sun and he was here to stay.  Yes the Gods were smiling down on us that day and it was a joy to be taking their portraiture shots outside.

Now for today’s images; the one thing about rain is that is can produce some very dramatic skies that are a great backdrop to any image and the sky really adds to this image of Jamie and Sean walking and the flow of Jamie’s dress really adds movement as well.  I do like a nice bridge and the foliage in the foreground really added depth and richness to this image.  Well doors and me…a match made in heaven there is nothing quite like a good brick wall and quirky door enhanced with muted colour tones for effect.  Well I couldn’t blog about Layer Marney Tower without a Pengelly window could I, so here it is a beautiful bride in a beautiful window with the classical richness of black and white.

It has been all go here at Pengelly HQ and we are looking forward to photographing our lovely couples during the month too.  I am not one to complain but could someone get this weather sorted!

Kevin and Sabrina 🙂

Weddings at All Saints’ Church Rettendon and Layer Marney Tower Colchester Essex-Nicola & Patrick

Good Morning All,

Welcome to the Essex wedding photography of Nicola and Patrick who were married at All Saints’ Church Rettendon and their beautiful wedding reception was held at Layer Marney Tower, Colchester, Essex.  I do love the variety that weddings have to offer and Sabrina and I feel so very lucky to travel around Essex photographing weddings and to experience the many wonderful churches and venues we have.

Nicola and Patrick had dry but very dramatic weather for their wedding day and this was the perfect backdrop for the venue, which is very dramatic too.  Poor Patrick was a little nervous during the day and it is easy to forget how nerve wracking it can be when being the centre of attention all day and then having lots of photographs taken.  Sabrina and I really did feel for him and made sure when did our best to calm his nerves so he could enjoy this wonderful day with his equally wonderful and beautiful bride.

So for today’s images; lads being lads and having some movement in this image has a twofold effect, it creates a feeling of motion in a still image but also diverts Patrick’s attention from being the focus of the image, which results in a much more relaxed Patrick!  The vintage car fitted just perfectly in this venue; I love they way they are looking at each other and reflecting on the very moving wedding ceremony they just experienced.  Because of the architecture, background and car I have used muted colour tones to tell the story here.  The Pengellys love a bit of leading lines; and I will always sniff a few out to use 🙂  The bridge was perfect for this image, leading lines to the both of them and Patrick is getting into the role of lord of the manor here, I just love that look as he surveys his estate next to his beautiful new wife.  I couldn’t wax lyrical about the tower without actually having a picture of the tower, so here it is; just fabulous and look at that architecture and dramatic clouds, stop rolling your eyes Sabrina, you know I love a good bit of architecture…honestly you just can’t get the staff 😉  don’t tell Sabrina I said that!

I am settling back into a routine now after my hectic few months judging, assessing and mentoring and I am very much looking forward to our weddings in June.

Check back soon for the latest Pengelly ramblings,

Kevin and Sabrina 🙂

Award Winning Wedding Photography at Layer Marney Tower, Colchester, Essex – Samantha and Richard

Happy Friday all and welcome to today’s blog,

The wedding photography this week is at one of our favourite venues Layer Marney Tower, Colchester, Essex.  It is also very special to us as a high proportion of our award winning images were taken here.  The fantastic architecture and grounds really do help when Kevin is creating his masterpieces.

Samantha and Richard were great fun to photograph; Samantha had the most gorgeous smile that did not leave her all day.  She was enjoying and absorbing every minute and it was a delight to see.

We loved Richard too, and the poor old groom often plays second fiddle on the day but Richard had other ideas.  He wanted something a little different for his lads and this brings us to the first image of the day.

This is 60’s gangster style and I just love it, men doing men’s things with men’s stuff!!!  Our second image was taken during the wedding ceremony and just look at Samantha’s face, she radiates happiness.

Ah yes, doors, brick wall and some interesting muted colour tones gives a twist to this classical image.

We are finishing off today’s blog images with Samantha who does demure just as well as she does happy; isn’t Richard a lucky chap.

It has been all go here at Pengelly Photography this week;  Kevin was  judging at the London Portrait Group and we both made a very special visit to London last night; if we can all will be revealed at a later date…ooh the intrigue!

Have a fantastic weekend and dont forget it is Mother’s Day on Sunday and look out for image of the week on Monday 🙂

Kevin & Sabrina 🙂
